Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and exhaust system problems are among the most common issues we see on modern Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles at GSR Garage in Telford. These systems are designed to reduce emissions but can cause significant problems if not properly maintained. The most common Mercedes-Benz DPF issue is injector failure on 2.1L CDI engines. This typically happens when vehicles are used primarily for short journeys in urban areas like Telford, Birmingham, and Telford, where the engine does not get hot enough to trigger passive regeneration. Signs of DPF blockage include reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and the DPF warning light appearing on the dashboard. NOx sensor failures on BlueTEC models is another frequent exhaust system problem on Mercedes-Benz diesel models. When the EGR valve becomes clogged with carbon deposits, it can cause rough idling, poor acceleration, and increased emissions. Regular cleaning can prevent this issue. For newer Euro 6 Mercedes-Benz diesel models, AdBlue system crystallisation is a known concern. The AdBlue system reduces NOx emissions but can be problematic. Symptoms include warning messages on the dashboard, reduced engine power, and in some cases, the vehicle may refuse to restart if the AdBlue level runs too low or the system detects a fault.
